January is a great time for making plans and setting goals for the new year. While you’re making resolutions to do things like take better care of yourself, spend less time on social media, or stop spending money on things you don’t need, why not go ahead and resolve to have the landscape you’ve always wanted? Making a landscape plan now will put you ahead of the game, so when warmer weather arrives, you’ll be ready to roll. And who knows — it might be the resolution you actually keep!
To begin planning, think about last year – what would you like to change, and what would you like to keep? Did anything go wrong with your landscape that you’d like to correct, like brown patches of grass in midsummer? What did you love about your lawn that you want to continue?
Once you know the direction you’d like to go, sit down with a laptop or notepad and brainstorm. Think about your “dream landscape,” then make lists of the plants, materials, and any equipment you’ll need. Have you always wanted a fire pit? Does your family dream of an outdoor kitchen for entertaining? Would you like to plant something other than hostas underneath that oak tree?
