Horse Shoe Fun
Who Says a Small Yard Can’t be Tons of Fun?!
Client ‘Wish List’
The clients wished to transform their small, unevenly-sloped Horse Shoe back yard to provide attractive areas for recreation—especially play opportunities for their young child—ideally, a small swing set, sand play area, stroller-accessible pathway through the naturalized ‘forest’ area at the rear of the lot, and also--for the adults--a small fire pit area, and a small patio near the bottom of their existing deck steps.
Notable Design Elements/Intents
Use some cut and a good amount of fill to achieve a larger, level back yard to accommodate all of the ‘wish list’ elements. The small sand play space is tucked into the bottom of the adjacent slope at the left edge of the site, a large area for the swing set/play structure (including safe clearances all around) is centered in the newly-leveled yard, and the fire pit is adjacent to that. The new right edge of the yard is retained by a block retaining wall, with stone steps down to the right side yard. TPS’ design also included a small footbridge that leads to the cedar mulch path(s) that meander through the ‘forest’ beyond. The owners also hung an inviting hammock at the ‘forest’ edge. Colorful accent plantings & landscape lighting further enhance the new yard into the evenings!
3-D Design Concepts
The photos and 3-D design video in this project give a good indication of how our 3-D design process provides our clients with an incredibly life-like idea of how the final project will look, once completed.
